Students who wish to return to Illinois State after being away for one or more semesters (excluding summer session) must apply for readmission. You can access an application for admission at Welcome2ISU or download an application and mail it to: Illinois State University, Office of Admissions, Campus Box 2200, Normal, IL 61790-2200.
Former Illinois State students who last attended as an undergraduate and are applying as an undergraduate student do not have to pay an application fee.
Yes, you will automatically be admitted into the major you had when you last attended Illinois State University, provided that you were in good academic standing.
Current policy does not allow students to change their major upon readmission. Students that want to declare a new major must contact the appropriate department/school once classes begin.
Each major program has different internal transfer requirements and application procedures. You may request to change your major by contacting your desired major department/school. You can also consult the current undergraduate catalog or your desired department/school Web site for information and requirements.
Undergraduate students who are not currently enrolled or were not enrolled at Illinois State during the previous semester (excluding summer) must first apply for readmission.
Once you are readmitted to Illinois State, you will be eligible to register for classes. To participate in advance registration you will need to be readmitted by the registration priority date. For Spring semester registration, the priority date is in mid-September, and for Fall semester registration the priority date is in mid-February. Students are to refer to their iCampus Portal Student Information Channel under the link "My Registration Date" for their registration date and time. Contact the Student Service and Referral Center at 309-438-2188 for more information.
You will need to reset your PIN if you do not recall your PIN from your previous enrollment at Illinois State. You can reset your PIN by bringing a photo I.D. to the Student Service and Referral Center in Moulton Hall 107 or by faxing a written request to (309) 438-8652. The written request must include your name, University Identification Number (UID), date of birth, a copy of your Redbird Card, the statement “default my PIN to my month and date of birth (mmdd),” and your signature. Your PIN cannot be changed via phone. More information in regard to your PIN and how to reset it can be found at the Student Service and Referral Center Web site.
If you have been away from Illinois State University for more than one semester (excluding summer session), your ULID may have been deactivated. You will need to re-activate your ULID in order to access your Illinois State Email, your iCampus Portal, and to register for classes. In order to activate your ULID, you must visit the ULID Account Setup and Maintenance Web site. If you have any other questions, you can contact the University Computer Help Desk at 438-HELP.
The iCampus portal is a personal network of campus information. Both students and faculty can log in and access all sorts of campus information including schedules, grades, textbooks, financial aid information, and even the weather. The portal is also used to register for classes, confirm attendance, and update addresses.
Visit iCampus to learn more about the portal using your ULID and Password.
Each Illinois State University student is assigned an academic advisor to help with educational planning prior to registration. Students should meet with their academic advisor before registering for courses. Students who have been readmitted to the University are placed in the same major they were in when they left Illinois State. You will need to contact the appropriate department/school for advisement.
Students who have earned fewer than 24 semester hours or those who are General or Unclassified students should see an advisor in University College Academic Advisement, Fell Hall 340, (309) 438-7604. All other students should contact their major department/school for advisement.
If you were originally admitted as a new freshman, you will follow Illinois State’s General Education curriculum. If you were originally admitted as a transfer student, and have at least one course that is placed in Illinois Articulation Initiative you can follow either IAI General Education or Illinois State’s General Education curriculum. Students who transfer with a completed baccalaureate-oriented associate’s degree from a regionally accredited post secondary institution are considered to have satisfied Illinois State University’s General Education Program requirements. Please contact your advisor if you have further questions.
You may use the catalog in effect at the time you first entered ISU as long as you attended at least one session each academic year (summer, fall, spring) at Illinois State or an Illinois community college. There are two exceptions to this rule:
If you did not attend at least one session each academic year at Illinois State or an Illinois community college, you will be assigned a new catalog based upon your semester of readmission to the University.
Should you decide to change to a new Undergraduate Catalog, you must meet all the requirements including General Education and graduation requirements, in that catalog. Students must discuss catalog changes and implications with their Academic Advisor.
Your GPA will be the same as when you left Illinois State University. Courses taken while attending another college or university will not affect your Illinois State University GPA. Although credit hours can transfer to Illinois State, grades cannot. The only way to change your Illinois State GPA is by taking courses at Illinois State University. The exception to this policy includes any student returning to Illinois State via the New Start program.
As soon as you register for classes you may obtain your Illinois State ID card from the Redbird Card Office. You must present another form of identification with your photo on it-such as a drivers’ license—in order to obtain your university ID. The Redbird Card Office is located in the Bone Student Center.
