Enrollment Deposit Frequently Asked Questions

Submitting a late Enrollment Deposit (postmarked after May 1)

What happens if I send the Enrollment Confirmation and Deposit after May 1?

If you send the Enrollment Confirmation and Deposit after May 1, it will be considered late. If you have not submitted the deposit and still wish to attend the University in the fall, you must submit an appeal to the May 1 postmark deadline. If you do not submit an appeal, your Enrollment Deposit will be returned to you and you will not be able to enroll in the fall term. Decisions on appeals will be made based on space availability in the freshmen class.

What is the appeal process for Enrollment Confirmation and Deposits received after the May 1 postmark deadline?

If your Enrollment Deposit is postmarked after May 1, you will be required to submit an appeal to the May 1 postmark deadline.

Your written statement of appeal should include the following:

  • Your Name
  • Your University Identification Number (UID)
  • An explanation in regard to why your Enrollment Deposit is late and why you feel the University should make an exception to the deadline.

Your typed appeal and Enrollment Confirmation Form and Deposit should be mailed to:

The Office of Enrollment Management and Academic Services
Illinois State University
Campus Box 4900
Normal IL 61790-4900

Once your appeal is received within the Office of Enrollment Management and Academic Services, it will be reviewed by a committee which includes staff from the Offices of Admissions and Enrollment Management and Academic Services. Appeals will be reviewed and decisions made on the following dates:

  • May 23
  • June 6
  • June 27
  • July 18

You will be notified by mail of the committee’s decision with regard to your Enrollment Deposit appeal.

Due to space limitations, very few deposits are accepted after the May 1 postmark deadline as the University cannot over-enroll the freshman class. Illinois State must ensure the resources necessary for all entering students to make a smooth transition from high school to college.

If my appeal is denied, is the Enrollment Deposit refunded?

If the University is unable to accept your Enrollment Deposit, your Enrollment Deposit payment will be returned to you.

I don’t understand why an exception cannot be made? Surely there is room for one more student!

The number of students who have submitted Enrollment Deposits by the May 1 deadline greatly impacts decisions pertaining to late Enrollment Deposits. The University plans for each student who intends to enroll in the fall term so that adequate resources are available. Admission materials and University correspondence clearly state the May 1 deadline, and much effort is made to inform students of this important deadline.

If the University were to accept each late deposit, campus resources, such as course availability, instructional resources, housing, etc. would be greatly impacted. Illinois State takes seriously its obligation to provide each student with the resources necessary to make a smooth transition to Illinois State while making available the tools for academic success. We cannot over-enroll our freshman class.
