The only way to be considered for reinstatement, is to petition for reinstatement. The Reinstatement Committee reads each petition for reinstatement individually and makes decisions on a case-by-case basis. The information that you provide assists the Committee with their decision.
The reinstatement petition that you submit is your appeal for Academic Dismissal. All decisions made by the Reinstatement Committee are final.
There was a reinstatement committee procedure where students who were dismissed from the University could be automatically reinstated if certain conditions were met. This is no longer an option. If you are dismissed from Illinois State and would like to be considered for reinstatement, you need to petition for reinstatement by the deadline.
A registration block could mean that you’ve been academically dismissed. Follow the instructions in your dismissal letter if you wish to return to the University. Your dismissal letter can be found on iCampus. In addition, your letter will be sent to your home address.
You must contact the instructor of the class that you believe has listed the incorrect grade. If warranted, the instructor will complete a "Change of Grade" form, and submit that to the Records Office. The Records Office will notify the Office of Enrollment Management and Academic Services (EMAS) once the change has been made. EMAS cannot act upon any grade changes until the changes are actually processed on your academic record. Please be aware that grade changes do take some time. If you have been dismissed from Illinois State, it is highly recommended that you file a petition for reinstatement even though you are expecting a grade change.
Refer to the iCampus portal after for the Committee's decision on your petition. A letter will also be sent to your home address notifying you of the Reinstatement Committee's decision.
If you are dismissed, the courses that you have registered for are not purged/dropped until after the Reinstatement Committee has made a decision. Therefore, if you have been notified that you are dismissed, and have petitioned for reinstatement, your course schedule is frozen until the committee has made a decision. If you are reinstated by the committee, your courses will not be dropped. If you are not reinstated, your course schedule will be dropped.
In your petition, explain why the Reinstatement Committee should allow you to return to Illinois State University. You must explain why the Reinstatement Committee should make an exception to the dismissal policy and allow you to return to Illinois State. The Reinstatement Committee is an external committee of the Academic Senate. Members of the committee include administrative professionals from the divisions of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, a faculty member from each of the six colleges, and three student representatives. Faculty members are appointed for a three-year term. Student members are appointed to a one-year term by the Student Government Association.
As stated in the Undergraduate Catalog, "At the end of any semester, except for summer session, when a student's cumulative grade point average is below a 2.00 a second or subsequent time, he or she is dismissed from the University." Therefore, you do not have to be on probation for two subsequent terms. If your cumulative GPA is below a 2.0 two or more times, you are subject to dismissal.
When you return to Illinois State University as a New Start Student, only your cumulative grade point average is impacted. Your probation history still continues. So, if your New Start cumulative grade point average is below a 2.00, it counts against your probation history. Therefore, you are subject to dismissal.
